Can I remove my dog's skin tag by myself?

My dog, a Labrador, has a large skin tag right on his stomach. It has gotten larger over the last few months, but that may be because of the rubbing when he sits down. When he went for a check-up, the vet said it was fine, and that if I wanted it removed, the dog could have surgery. Problem is, that's about $500 total. Is there a safe way I could remove the skin tag on my own?

Can I remove my dog's skin tag by myself?
No. Find another vet. $500 to remove a skin tag is ridiculous!
Reply:If there is a surgery to actually have it removed

I say no.
Reply:Is the dog in pain? If I were you I'd just take my time and save up- if you try removing it yourself and they dog starts bleeding uncontrollably, the emergency vet bill will be much worse and he'll be in pain...
Reply:Do not do it at home. Skin tags often get infected without proper post-cleaning and antibiotics. You also risk cutting an artery and causing excessive bleeding. Plus, it would be very painful for your dog without sedative.
Reply:Don't try this on your own. If it hurts (and you know it will) the dog could bite you even if he never has before. Also could have serious complications. Either leave it alone or let the vet take care of it. Honestly $500.00 sounds like a lot for something this simple. You might check with another vet.
Reply:First of all a skin tag does not need to be removed. However, you absolutely cannot remove this on your own.
Reply:This is definitely not safe for you to do on your own. Since it's getting larger, I'd pay the $500 and get it removed properly. Your better off leaving it as it is than trying to remove it yourself.
