Good dog food?

Is science diet sensitive skin a good food. I have 2 dogs with skin problems.

I also have a dog who's skin and toes were itchy and dry, sometimes even red because of scratching, I can't say that I know if science diet is good or not, I have not used it, but if you compare the ingredients to some other brands you might find it at least interesting.

First note the first five ingredients of both foods, these are the main ingredients used in each dog food. It's known that corn is used as a filler and is not easily digestable for dogs, or humans for that matter.





flaxseed oil is a good thing for dogs with skin problems, but you can also add supplements to your dogs food, such as fish oil, and even a tablespoon of yogurt can help their coat. My dog used to itch like crazy, I switched to a different holistic dog food and now we're both happy, there are other supplements you can find at dog food stores, I used them for a while, but I found that after I switched her food to something without corn her skin was not drying out anymore.





If you want some more information on dog nutrition, I found out more through a forum on www.pets.ca they provided great information and you can search through past information on foods for dogs.





Use your own judgement, I used solidgold as an example because dogs find it tastey and it is good for dogs who are sensitive to some foods. In the end it's you who decides what's best for your dog, just be sure to research and check out the facts.

Feed them chicken - include the bones - lots of fatty meats with plenty of gravy.

DO NOT LISTEN TO "DAN B" DOGS CANNOT HAVE CHICKEN BONES, IT IS VERY BAD FOR THEM!!!
Reply:yes is it a good food. You can also try hills Z/D low allagin or lamb and rice foods, they seem to help, But I would go with theHills science diet sensitive kind, you can et it from any local pet store the Z/D is a presrciption and u have to get it threw the vets and can be more costly.

Reply:A good food for your dog would be the LIFESTYLE DOG FOOD LAMB FORMULA; if you are a pet lover don't buy IAMS because they animal test being cruel to the animals
Reply:IAMS is the best, but you have to ask the vet what works with your dog. my dogs eat IAMS and are really healthy.
Reply:We use Purina One Sensitive Systems and that has helped our dog a lot. We also bought a skin emollient online (after many test tries with other products and this has proved to work miracles). Its relatively cheap and our dog doesn't seem to mind it at all!
Reply:Vets recommend it. But I don't! Any dog food that contains corn by product in it is not the best food for your dog. Corn is a filler and that is all it is. Dogs do not know how to break down corn so it generally passes...meaning, you have more to clean up.

They have some of the best dogs foods on the market today for sale or many can be purchased in your area.

Reply:No, Science Diet is not a high quality food. Go to a private pet store that sells high quality food and try perhaps Avo, Chicken Soup for the Dog's Soul, Solid Gold, Merrick. Also get some omega supplements made for dogs - Lipiderm or another good quality brand, and add to the diet every day.
Reply:The sensitive skin is good. Also Hill's makes a D/D (derm diet) in venison, rabbit, egg/rice, and potato/duck and they make Z/D (allergen-free diet). The D/D and Z/D come in dry and can, only with Vet's prescription
