My dogs are suffering with a skin problem. The VET can't seem to help us. Many people are having same issues

The dogs itch badly, there are NO FLEAS, they lose their hair and seem to be miserable. One friend (about 300 miles away) has spent nearly $1000 and his dogs still have the problem. Can anyone help our poor miserable dogs?

You could try a cortisone cream, chamomile is also excellent as an alternative. My friend's dogs also suffer from a similar thing, they get a kind of heat rash, and lose all their hair. She's had good results with a combination of the two things I mentioned.
Reply:My cousin spent more than $5000 on his dog with the allergy vet.

They had his dog on a kangroo meat diet and they had no luck treating his symptoms. He was tested for Lupus and several other autoimmune diseases and they could not ever find an answer.

Good luck with your dogs.
Reply:therres 2 ways etheir shave all his hair out and keep him indoors or give him a LONG shower when its really hot or maybe he has what my dog has we have to brush him each day cause its summer here and his cought changes from black broun to wight brown red
Reply:at first we were told it was Hot Spot

the dog loses fur and has serious sensitive skin and bites %26amp; scratches until the fur flies.

So...

we have had very few problems since

#1. do not bath the dog often

#2 rinse off all the soap [ must have no residue on body]

#3. we used Aloe Vera [ like for sunburn] with it cooled in fridge

#4. use only natural things like Aloe

hope this helps..

so it seems like the thing that causes this is mostly not rinsing the dog's fur enough and washing the dog too often.

plus if you use some flea meds like the

one BioSpot [Frontline is good one]

dogs are alklergic to either or both of them
Reply:I grew up with chows and all of ours had skin promblems. My mom spent in excess of $5,000 on treatments. We finally learned they had food allergies!!! Most of ours were allergic to poultry products in their dog food. The vet told us to start eliminating certain products out of their diet until we discovered the allergen.
Reply:I would find a Vet that could! What do you and your friends have in commen...Are you feeding the same dog foods? Are the dogs related? Try narrowing it down this way...If they are related Think Demodex mange and get the Vet to do Skin Scrapings..Again..Foods the Same..Change them..I hope you post when you find out what the problem is. I'm very curious...Does the Skin look like leather under the fallen out hair before it turns red? hmmmm.. Good luck..Poor Pooches!
Reply:Have a look here.
Reply:benadryl (or store-equivalent...diphenhydramine is what it is) and use Royal Canin's Skin Support dog food. It's expensive but that has helped my dog when expensive meds did nothing. Also, I'm assuming that your dogs have been checked for mange? Try the dog food. It takes about 3 weeks to start seeing improvement, but my Australian Shepherd/Spitz mix used to lose all of the hair on her legs and underside of her body. Her skin was pink to bright red. Now, using benadryl and Royal Canin Skin Support, she doesn't lose her hair. Still itches some but nothing as bad as before.
Reply:I have heard of many totally unrelated people with this problem,My vet source says mange can be difficult to diagnose and easy to overlook as skin scrapings are not always reliable. As with skin problems with people they are often never diagnosed properly no matter how much $ you have to spend However if lice is not ruled out do not proceed with hyocortisone it will aggravate the problem. I am going to try the no shampoo/aloe thing on our dog. our son may not have rinsed well enough, bath the day before outbreak. Summertime is a common problem for dryscaling skin,I am also getting rid of corn and chicken in our dog's diet, adding essential fatty acids and will try the Mitox if no relief .and /or Ivermectin., sulfadene and will check out the http//www.dog healthjims-info.com from above.and will check the dog breeders suggestion of douche powder and vaseline by reading the ingredients on the powder. Who knows? My vet takes no hostages and no payment arrangement from anyone many bad apples have spoiled the system for everyone.
Reply:just put sunflower oil on the spot, each day it takes time but it helps for sure and ts cheap too

  1. I have many dogs on the province and we have no skin problems. My relatives in the city however do have exactly this problem with their pets. The point of this is when a dog is in a dog environment and community they rarely get illness or disease.
