Dog problem please help.?

My chihuahua Roxy has very dry skin and dandruff! I have no idea why, she eats high quality dog food, and there is no reason her skin should be so dry. I only give her a bath about once a month so it cant be that i am taking away her natural oils. What is going on and how can I fix it. It seems that she only gets the dandruff at certain times. It is not an all the time thing.

Dog problem please help.?
Her skin might be sensitive. You can get doggy spray in conditioner for her coat and spray it on her daily to help her skin not dry out. Also, get omega-3 pills for dogs and give her one daily- it will help her skin and coat. You could also try giving her waterless baths instead, too. That tends to not dry out their skin as much. You get the waterless shampoo at the pet supply store.
Reply:hmm I cant really tell you but maybe you should try asking your vet???

and it might be the food the most high quility isnt always the best for your dog
Reply:Once a month baths is your problem. I say once a WEEK!!! I have two chihuahuas and they use to have that problem. More frequent baths should do the trick, if not take it to the vet. good luck!!!
Reply:You may need to add some fat to her diet....not too much mind you (too much will cause the runs), but just enough to oil the coat....that is done from the inside out....hope this helps
Reply:Ask her vet%26gt;
Reply:The easiest way to treat both dandruff and itching is to pay a little more attention to your pet's skin and coat. "Most pets need a bath monthly or less, but those with seborrhea should get a weekly bath with an antiseborrhea shampoo until the condition is under control . Then use the shampoo every two to four weeks."
Reply:Go to the vet and tell him or her that Roxy has very dry skin and dandruff and he will probally recamend these dog treats that get rid of the dryskin and ask about the dadruff
Reply:It sounds like a case of dry skin to me. It is only dandruff if it is yellowy if it is white then it is dry skin. It is made worse by central heating, over bathing and using products. A good groom each day should help.
Reply:Dogs, unless they get into something really dirty, should only be bathed 1-2 times a year as more frequent bathing will dry out their skin and can cause these kinds of dry issues.

You might also consult your vet, as I have heard this can also be parasite related as well.
Reply:try using anti-dandruff shampoo when you bathe her
Reply:They make conditioner for pets which you can buy at pets mart or any animal store. Apply this to the little guys fur and you will see the skin heal it self up. good luck
Reply:hey girl; love the chihuahuas. you can give her a little bacon greese on dry food or bath her in a shampoo with coal. if it only happens at certain times, take note of what is going on at that time. like did you just put carpet fresh down? small k-9 are sensetize to alot of things.
Reply:Your dog should be bathed twice a year only! your washing far to much.

You say your feeding high quality food, but what is this? meal/meat what??

High quality to us does not mean it is high quality to the dog, your dog could be allergic to one if not more of the ingredients.

Try james wellbeloved food slowly mixing in so within one week the dog has finally changed over turkey/rice

Give your dog tuna in sunflower oil, drain off the oil %26amp; mix in 1/3 of the tuna 1/2 can (just the small cans) if your dog is medium/large.

Your dog is lacking in oils, you give them this to help there skin/coat/nails from becoming dry/brittle etc.

If this is not going on all the time, have you paid attention to when he/she is getting it? time of the month? feeding table scraps etc change in your dogs diet that it does not usually get. Has your dog got fleas? dogs can be allergic with the flea bites that can cause dry flaky skin can also cause hair loss.
Reply:Give your pet about 1/3 teaspoon of the liquid "CORN" oil shortening 1 X daily. She isn't getting enough fatty acids into her system. You may even try the Brewers Yeast and garlic tablets that can be purtchased at any feed stoe and give as directed.I have good results with both products.
Reply:My shih tzu used to get dry skin and we tried a ton of things: special dog food, pills/vitamins, anti-dandruff shampoo, etc. One of the dog food stuff was working very well, but then they discontinued it. So, she started getting all dandruffy again most of the time. One day, while I was taking a shower, she got curious and jumped in the shower with me. I figured since she was in there, I would shampoo her. After that, she started jumping in the shower with me a lot more and she started getting washed a lot more. Miraculously, her dandruff went away!

The lesson of today's story is that every dog is unique. For some dogs, that might have made their dandruff worse, but for mine, it helped get rid of it. Try lots of stuff. Try giving her more baths, less baths, and ask her vet about what dog

foods, vitamins, or shampoos could help her.

Good Luck!
