I have a german shepherd/doberman mix that has skin problems whats a good natural dog food?

below is a link for an organic dog food, with no corn or soy products.

I also agree with the answer above me,canidae is a very good food, another is inova.

Stay away from old roy, purina, iams, science diet, and foods like it.They are full of nothing but corn and soy products. Many dogs who have food problems, have them because of corn and soy. They are nothing but fillers to make your dog feel full.Good dog food has meat as the top 2 and preferably 3 main protein sources. They also have fruits and veggies.

Try beneful for healthy skin and fur....other wise have you tried adding fish oil in his existing food? You can buy them in the vitamin aisle of your target or walmart...just break it open and squirt it on...but beware it does STINK! Good Luck!
Reply:I hear that Olive Oil in their food is good too and there are shamposs that might help.
Reply:I like Canidae. It is made form a higher class of food sources than others. It also has a good balance of Omega 3 acids and other Fatty Acids.

However, I think your dog may have seasonal hot spots or allergies. Consider taking him to a vet to diagnose. Hostpots are a moist dermatitis. They can be managed with opical sprays and lotions and shampoos. Much like dandruff/psoriasis a hotspot is very inflammed skin and is very itchy. A good pet shampoo will help. Topical steroids and oral antibiotics may be required in some cases.
Reply:supposedly lamb meal and rice formulas are great for dogs with skin problems. the animal may also actually be allergic to what he is being fed now.
Reply:depends what country you live in so I wont list names of foods.

AVIOD soy, wheat, beef, pork, and corn which are the usual suspects in skin problems -

Often Lamb and Rice is best and generally considered hypo-allergenic.

Avoid any food that says MEAT MEAL (meat = any dead animal)

look for other problems such as carpet cleaning products and room sprays. Even raw hide and pigs ears should be avoided - only LAMB AND RICE treats.
Reply:Mine is a German Shepherd and eats Wellness dry food. Has lots of fruits, vegetables, fatty acids/omega. Costs about $45 for a 40# bag.
Reply:I have a lab/pit with a "delicate constitution", shall we say, and I have good luck whith the Nutro Natural Choice in the green bag (lamb and rice for skin, something like that). Her hair actually started falling out on a commercial diet such as Purina. Natural balance is good as well. Both around $30 for a 40 pound bag.
